The Most Important Mormon Belief

What do Mormons believe? It is a question that usually invokes a large list of answers, and an equally long list of questions. It generates opinions and conclusions both positive and negative. It is a question that has sparked many respectful discussions, and also disrespectful accusations. Ever since 1820, this question has opened up heated debates, but it has also opened up millions of hearts who have embraced it. When we break down all the words and tumult and lists and debates, there is one simple answer left. The most important Mormon belief is in God the Eternal Father, and in Jesus Christ whom He has sent. (John 17:3) At the center of all Mormon belief is Jesus Christ. The only One who could save and redeem the world. All other beliefs take a supporting role.

The only name the church has ever carried is “The Church of Jesus Christ”, with the designation “of Latter-day Saints” to diferentiate from the followers (“fellow saints” Eph. 2: 19-20), who joined Jesus’ church in “former” days. The term Mormon was a nickname coined by persons not of the faith around the time the church was organized in 1830. Members accept that after 170 years, this nickname is inextricably connected to their identity, but it does not define their belief.

As a member of this church, I am filled with a personal love for my Savior Jesus Christ every day. His life, His teachings and His infinite sacrifice mean everything to me. He is my Hope when I face hardship and sorrow. He is the Light of my world when everything is very dark and I cannot see how things will turn out. I try my very best to follow His teachings and do what He would do. I try to be a living Christian. God our Father loved the world so much that He sent His only begotten son. Because Jesus Christ came, we can each be made clean from our mistakes, and free from our pain. Because Jesus Christ came, the grave is only temporary, and is not the end of life. Because Jesus Christ died for us, He now lives for us. He has carried every pain and sorrow and worry and heartache we will ever experience. He knows exactly how we feel. He cares more than anyone else can. He never abandons us. Our lives each have a divine purpose. God the Father sent His Son Jesus Christ to make everything possible for us. And Jesus Christ willingly came, and accomplished all the work he was given to do. Perfectly.
