Thanksgiving Every Day

Elder Joseph B. Wirthlin, a member of the LDS Quorum of the Twelve Apostles taught:

Joseph B Wirthlin, Apostle

Joseph B Wirthlin, Apostle

“Gratitude is a mark of a noble soul and a refined character. We like to be around those who are grateful. They tend to brighten all around them. They make others feel better about themselves. They tend to be more humble, more joyful, more likable.”In the Book of Mormon we learn that we should “live in thanksgiving daily” (Alma 34:38). Isn’t that a wonderful thought to live in thanksgiving daily?”

Gratitude is actually a commandment of our Heavenly Father. “Thou shalt thank the Lord thy God in all things” (D&C 59:7).

President Joseph F. Smith , 6th Prophet of the LDS Church, proclaimed: Continue reading

A 1978 Warning Of Current USA Crises

Elder Neal A. MaxwellThirty years ago Elder Neal A. Maxwell, who was then serving in The First Quorum of the Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints gave a talk at Brigham Young University entitled “Meeting The Challenges of Today,”. It was later republished as “A More Determined Discipleship“. His words of warning that day regarding our national decline have become prophetic. A video is included below.

Our nation is following the dangerous trend to Continue reading

Mormons Believe in Following Christ

"Come Follow Me"

Jesus taught us how to know the difference between a true or a false prophet, and between a true or false follower of His gospel:

By their fruits ye shall know them.” (Matt. 7:20.)

For a good tree bringeth not forth corrupt fruit; neither doth a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit… Every tree is known by his own fruit.” (Luke 6:43–44.)

President Ezra Taft Benson, Thirteenth prophet of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints once stated: Continue reading

Mexico City LDS (Mormon) Temple Rededication

Mexico City LDS Temple

Mexico City LDS Temple

The 25-year-old Mexico City, Mexico Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints closed for renovation in March 2007. It has been a long wait for the faithful saints of that area to have their temple open again. This month, the greatly anticipated rededication ceremony took place!

When Latter-day Saint temples undergo significant renovation or reconstruction, it is the custom to open them to the public again for tours. Following the Mexico City temple tours, it was formally rededicated on Sunday, 16 November 2008 (Read Entire Prayer Here).

There are over one million Latter-day Saints in Mexico. For a quarter of them, Continue reading

Living In The World, Without Letting The World Into Us

"Soar" - ArtbyChristi, flickr

We live in troubling times. One of my frequent readers, John Paul at e4Unity recently posted about the worries of the religious community regarding the crumbling fabric of our society, the loss of freedoms and spirituality we are experiencing, and the natural contemplation that ensues of signs of the last days and second coming of Christ. He links to an open letter written by the president and editor of Zion’s Fire, a Judeo-Christian magazine. This is a very long piece, but I found it well written, and including some important commonalities of belief.

Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints share concern over the global spiritual crises. We feel the weight of oppression as evil increases upon the earth, family values disintegrate, God is mocked, and bad news seems to be the only news. There is a sense of urgency to prepare physically and financially for further calamities. We are oft reminded of the importance to Continue reading

Joseph Smith The Prophet: A Musical Presentation

Joseph Smith and The Angel Moroni

Joseph Smith is given the ancient records by Angel Moroni

In March 2001, a new musical production entitled “Joseph Smith the Prophet“, premiered at the Provo Utah Tabernacle. Composer Rob Gardner was then a student at Brigham Young University. Gardner organized the first stage concert with the help of many talented volunteer musicians. The response was overwhelming. The audience filled the venue beyond capacity, forcing many to listen from the lawn outside. In the months and years following, thousands more have been able to attend performances. Global church and musical groups have also staged presentations. Similar to a ‘classical American musical’ or a ‘modern oratorio’, Gardner employs Continue reading

The Restoration of Truth: Part One

This post continues my discussion of what the world calls “Mormonism”. Faithful believers of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (nicknamed “Mormon”) feel this is a Restoration of Christ’s true gospel. I invite you to enjoy the following movie depicting how this restoration began, shared in two parts.

In 1820 God Chose A Prophet

As explained in my last post, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is a Restoration church. I would like to share a few posts that explain that restoration. I feel the story is exciting, miraculous and important for all to hear. This 4 minute video is about the very beginning of the restoration, with a vision to a boy named Joseph Smith.

Just as Samuel, Moses and other prophets of Biblical times, God chose to reveal himself again to a chosen prophet in 1820.

A Rebuttal To: “Mormonism LEGALLY Declared Not Christian”

The Christus Statue on Mormon Temple Square

A few weeks ago, a blog buddy of mine named John Shore sent me an email. Knowing that I am a Mormon, he shared an article recently published by Richard Abanes, which presents the theory that Mormonism has legally  been declared non-Christian.

On inspection this post’s startling claim does not hold water. I would like to offer my personal response as a researched, fact-based rebuttal, in order to provide balance and fairness for readers.

It is my hope that many will take the time to consider my words. I wish to clarify misconceptions, and help you experience a little peace in your day. Continue reading
