President David O. McKay did not get the idea of family home evening from J.E. McCulloch. The idea of having family home evening came from the Granite, Utah stake in 1909 from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

I have also seen people credit Benjamin Disraeli for this quote - "No success in public life can compensate for failure in the home." He was the Prime Minister of the United kingdom from 1874 to 1880. He died in 1881. It is listed here as "Unsourced" IF it is correct, it may make him the rightful owner.
