  1. It’s been a long time since I last read this speech of President Benson’s which he gave at BYU in 1980. I appreciate Mormon Soprano making it available to me again. Standing with President Benson on these fourteen principles will keep me and each us from becoming lost in the philosphies of men!

I appreciate President Benson’s emphasis on the crucially important words of the living prophet! During this General Conference of the Church (April 3rd and 4th, 2010) I will listen attentively and prayerfully to his, (President Thomas S. Monson’s) words and the words of all of the other men and women leaders he will have called upon to speak, and then make an honest and energetic effort to live by them.

Their words are the words of the Lord. We should never allow any scientific or profound wisdom of the learned of today or the past ever take precedence over the words of the living prophet and his representatives!

President Benson was for about eight years, a cabinet member of the United States Government under President Dwight D. Eisenhower. He therefore was exposed to much of the “wisdom of men” from many different directions, yet he, as a prophet of God knew that accepting and living by revelation from Heaven through God’s authorized servants is the only way to keep from being deceived!

Thanks MoSop for better preparing me for the General Conference that begins in just four days!
