Longfellow’s Christmas

The life of revered American poet and educator Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (1807 – 1882) held great sorrow, and also great faith. In 2008, actor Edward Herrmann recounted the inspiring story behind Longfellow’s enduring Christmas hymn of hope, “I Heard The Bells On Christmas Day“.

“Though in a manager thou draw breath,

Thou art greater than life and death!”
