It is impossible to give true justice to a General Conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with a mere summary. However, for the sake of my many readers who may not have had the opportunity to watch or hear the conference yet, or for those who would like my perspective – here are a few of my personal observations and highlights from the recent October 2011 Conference weekend: Continue reading

The first two sessions of the 181st Semi-annual General Conference of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day saints have just concluded, and they were wonderful as usual! Here’s a brief recap of today’s Temple Announcements, including President Monson’s dramatic entrance.

Decorating For Conference
Fall in Salt Lake City is definitely my favorite season of the year. I love the crispness in the air and watching the mountains become a beautiful living canvas of red and gold, growing bolder and more vibrant each day. For me, Fall is a season of romance and love. My husband and I met in October, and got engaged in October two years later. Fall is also a season of spiritual renewal, bringing the October semi-annual General Conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints – something I never miss! With the holidays of Halloween and Thanksgiving just around the corner, and the crowning glory of Christmas following close behind, who couldn’t love this very special time of the year?
I have been personally preparing Continue reading
The Unforgettable Forget-Me-Not Talk
Saturday September 24th was the global 2011 Relief Society Annual General Conference held in Salt Lake City, Utah and broadcast by radio, satellite transmission and online streaming to the world. I was priveldged to be able to watch it by satellite. Each talk was inspiring and made me feel better about myself and glad to be alive. The most “unforgettable” talk was, as usual, by President Dieter F. Uchtdorf of the LDS First Presidency who delighted us with a modern parable centered on the tiny blue forget-me-not flower. Each of the 5 petals of the flower represent a guiding principle that he hopes women everywhere never forget. This talk is sure to rank right up there with the late President Gordon B. Hinckley’s beloved, and equally unforgettable, “6 Be’s” Talk from Jan. 2000.
“You are destined for more than you can possibly imagine!”
President Uchtdorf’s talk could not have come at a more appropriate time for me personally. Our family has been experiencing some difficult trials over the past month, and I have definitely struggled with discouragement. One of the overriding themes of this women’s conference was Continue reading
Being A Latter-day Saint
Elder Boyd K. Packer, President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles answered the question “What Is A Latter-Day Saint?” during the Sunday session of our most recent General Conference.
“A Latter-day Saint is quite an ordinary individual. Continue reading
Sundae Sunday
Today is the anniversary of the icecream sundae - which is fitting, since it has been a very sweet LDS General Conference weekend!
We enjoyed the final two sessions of Conference in Salt Lake City, which had been transformed into a winter wonderland due to a late spring snowstorm. Continue reading
What’s In YOUR Purse?
It’s been such a great day! The April 2011 LDS General Conference is in full swing, with enough inspirational music and messages to uplift and motivate the soul for months to come. I can hardly wait for tomorrow! But, it’s nice to have a night to reflect on everything we have heard already.
President Thomas S. Monson announced three new temples, which are planned for Fort Collins, Colo.; Meridian, Idaho; and Winnipeg, Canada. The Church is also commemorating the 75th Anniversary of the Welfare Program. There are MANY great quotes and powerful ideas scribbled in my notebook that I’m anxious to share. . . but, I simply can’t resist spotlighting apostle Elder Quentin L. Cook’s talk about “INCREDIBLE WOMEN”, specifically, his Parable of a Purse – which I thought was irresistible blog material.

I Know That My Savior Loves Me
A few years ago two talented women named Tami Jeppson Creamer, and Derena Bell teamed up to compose the song ”I Know That My Savior Loves Me“. It was written specifically for a children’s choir to perform at a local Stake Conference, but this weekend the song will “go viral” to a global audience!
Creamer and Bell’s powerful message combined with a sweet melody has been popular with Continue reading
Dame Vera Lynn Adds Light To Mormon Conference
I love it when songs are used as illustrations in talks during the Semi-Annual General Conference of our Church. Thankfully, it happens often. Last week’s October 2010 Conference was no exception.
During the Saturday October 2nd afternoon session, Elder Quentin L. Cook of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles shared that for his birthday, he received a newly remastered CD of World War II songs by vocalist Dame Vera Lynn. He explained, Continue reading
