For Times of Trouble, Remember The Pioneers
This weekend Utah commemorates the first pioneer arrival to the Valley of the Great Salt Lake. On July 24, 1847 a weary and ill Brigham Young raised up on his elbow from the back of a wagon, looked out over a vast desert valley, and confirmed “This is the right place!” Soon, that same desert would “blossom as a rose” and Mormons throughout the world answered the call to leave their native land and “come to Zion”. Thus began a gathering of epic proportions which shaped America in powerful ways. The Mormon Pioneer exodus Continue reading
Brighton LDS Girls Camp 90th Year: Already Memorable
This summer marks the 90th Anniversary of the Brighton LDS Girls Camp, located in Big Cottonwood Canyon, east of Salt Lake City, Utah. Brighton Camp began in the summer of 1921, and has the distinction of being the first and oldest continually running Latter-day Saint Girls camp in church history. It has welcomed girls ages 12-14 uninterrupted each and every summer since its dedication, [except one, due to a forest fire which destroyed most of the original buildings]. This summer also marks two more memorable “firsts” for Brighton. Continue reading
Holy Saturday: Jesus Visits The Dead

Where was Jesus for the 30-35 hours between His death on Friday, and His Resurrection on Sunday? The answer unlocks the mystery of death and gives us a glimpse of God’s Great Plan of Happiness for all of His children. Elder Spencer J. Condie of the Quorum of the Seventy stated:
“…the significance of what He [The Savior] did during those hours provides the doctrinal foundation for building [Latter-day Saint] temples across the earth. Furthermore, a testimony of what He did can greatly console those who mourn the death of a loved one.” Continue reading
Being Like Jesus
Some of the most sublime and thought-provoking teachings of Jesus can be found in the 5th Chapter of Matthew , in the New Testamant – called The Sermon on The Mount. Not far from the city of Nazareth, a large crowd gathered on a hill. They had a commanding view of the beautiful Sea of Galilee as they listened to the man who had calmed its waves and walked upon its sparkling water. Continue reading
Being A Latter-day Saint

“A Latter-day Saint is quite an ordinary individual. Continue reading
What’s In YOUR Purse?
It’s been such a great day! The April 2011 LDS General Conference is in full swing, with enough inspirational music and messages to uplift and motivate the soul for months to come. I can hardly wait for tomorrow! But, it’s nice to have a night to reflect on everything we have heard already.
President Thomas S. Monson announced three new temples, which are planned for Fort Collins, Colo.; Meridian, Idaho; and Winnipeg, Canada. The Church is also commemorating the 75th Anniversary of the Welfare Program. There are MANY great quotes and powerful ideas scribbled in my notebook that I’m anxious to share. . . but, I simply can’t resist spotlighting apostle Elder Quentin L. Cook’s talk about “INCREDIBLE WOMEN”, specifically, his Parable of a Purse – which I thought was irresistible blog material.

New Year, New Testament
On January 1st of each year, Mormons around the globe begin a new Sunday School & Seminary course of study focusing on one of our standard books of scripture. In 2010, we delved into the Old Testament of the Bible. For 2011 we now launch into the New Testament, and I couldn’t be more excited. I hope you are, too! Continue reading
CTR Symbol Celebrates 40 Years
When a Latter-day Saint child is old enough to graduate from Nursery class to the Primary program, they will soon mark their right of passage by receiving their very own CTR Ring. I remember the day my primary teacher gave me my first ring. I proudly ran through the chapel to show it off to my mother. Continue reading
