It’s the worst nightmare any parent of a young Mormon missionary would have to face; learning your child who has dedicated two years of their lives away from home for church service will never return. Last night, not just one, but two families received this devastating news. Today, our world-wide community of members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are grieving for the tragic loss of two exemplary young men struck down in their prime on a rural road in Texas. Conference Highlights – October 2011
It is impossible to give true justice to a General Conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with a mere summary. However, for the sake of my many readers who may not have had the opportunity to watch or hear the conference yet, or for those who would like my perspective – here are a few of my personal observations and highlights from the recent October 2011 Conference weekend: Continue reading

Decorating For Conference
Fall in Salt Lake City is definitely my favorite season of the year. I love the crispness in the air and watching the mountains become a beautiful living canvas of red and gold, growing bolder and more vibrant each day. For me, Fall is a season of romance and love. My husband and I met in October, and got engaged in October two years later. Fall is also a season of spiritual renewal, bringing the October semi-annual General Conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints – something I never miss! With the holidays of Halloween and Thanksgiving just around the corner, and the crowning glory of Christmas following close behind, who couldn’t love this very special time of the year?
I have been personally preparing Continue reading
The Unforgettable Forget-Me-Not Talk
Saturday September 24th was the global 2011 Relief Society Annual General Conference held in Salt Lake City, Utah and broadcast by radio, satellite transmission and online streaming to the world. I was priveldged to be able to watch it by satellite. Each talk was inspiring and made me feel better about myself and glad to be alive. The most “unforgettable” talk was, as usual, by President Dieter F. Uchtdorf of the LDS First Presidency who delighted us with a modern parable centered on the tiny blue forget-me-not flower. Each of the 5 petals of the flower represent a guiding principle that he hopes women everywhere never forget. This talk is sure to rank right up there with the late President Gordon B. Hinckley’s beloved, and equally unforgettable, “6 Be’s” Talk from Jan. 2000.
“You are destined for more than you can possibly imagine!”
President Uchtdorf’s talk could not have come at a more appropriate time for me personally. Our family has been experiencing some difficult trials over the past month, and I have definitely struggled with discouragement. One of the overriding themes of this women’s conference was Continue reading
Brighton LDS Girls Camp 90th Year: Already Memorable
This summer marks the 90th Anniversary of the Brighton LDS Girls Camp, located in Big Cottonwood Canyon, east of Salt Lake City, Utah. Brighton Camp began in the summer of 1921, and has the distinction of being the first and oldest continually running Latter-day Saint Girls camp in church history. It has welcomed girls ages 12-14 uninterrupted each and every summer since its dedication, [except one, due to a forest fire which destroyed most of the original buildings]. This summer also marks two more memorable “firsts” for Brighton. Continue reading
What Is The Book of Mormon About?
In light of a sacrilegious Broadway musical disrespecting/ usurping/ plagiarizing/ mocking/ stealing/ “permanently borrowing” the same name as sacred scripture, I’d like to offer a few facts and personal thoughts about The Book of Mormon, and what it’s really all about. I’ve provided many links and references that you may find of interest.
As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I often hear people referring to my “Mormon Bible”, or simply ”those different scriptures you use”.
For reference and clarification, here is:
My Top Ten List of What The Book of Mormon IS, and what it IS NOT. Continue reading
Meet A Modern Apostle: David A. Bednar
An interview with Elder David A. Bednar, Apostle of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints ["The Mormons"] was recently released on YouTube, featured below. Prior to being called as an Apostle of the church, Bednar was a teacher and educator. He served as President of Rick’s College from 1997-2004 which received full University status during his tenure becoming ”BYU Idaho“. At the time of his calling to Apostleship, Bednar was only 52 years old, making him the youngest member of the Quorum of the Twelve at that time, and one of the youngest to ever be called in the past century. “Do You Have Room?” New Christmas Video
Last year I had the great privilege to become web friends with LDS composer Shawna Belt Edwards. I blogged about her beautiful “Do You Have Room? Song Sensation“. This year, Shawna has teamed up with another of my respected LDS artistic friends, blogger/videographer Seth Adam Smith to create a timeless music video gift. I hope that you will feel the loving spirit of our Savior Jesus Christ as you watch, listen, ponder and share. It is my prayer that each of us will always choose to ‘make room’ for the Babe of Bethlehem.

CTR Symbol Celebrates 40 Years
When a Latter-day Saint child is old enough to graduate from Nursery class to the Primary program, they will soon mark their right of passage by receiving their very own CTR Ring. I remember the day my primary teacher gave me my first ring. I proudly ran through the chapel to show it off to my mother. Continue reading
