Closer To God One Synthetic Cell At A Time

Cells stained for keratin and DNA: such parts ...

The world has made an amazing scientific leap. I don’t know where we are leaping yet, but I sense it will be far and wide. Last May, the Wall Street Journal reported that Scientists Have Created A Synthetic Cell. Heralding a new era in biology, scientists for the first time have created a synthetic cell, completely controlled by man-made genetic instructions. The day of the announcement, I wrote this blog post – but, for some reason I never hit the “publish” button and it sat quietly in my “draft” queue – until today. At the time of the article’s release I wondered how the world would react to this news? Would the media pounce, or ignore? Would the breakthrough be applauded or picketed? Only time would tell.  For me, the discovery was another witness of God. Continue reading

I Believe In Aliens

a "Pancake Moon"

When I was about 8 years old I learned that earthlings are not alone in the Universe. This was the summer my divorced mother bundled her three young children into the car for “an adventure to California“. I have limited memories of what we did or where we went, but the memories I do have are powerful and crystal clear. Continue reading

Earth: Supersized Home Improvement

Earth with her ten thousand flow’rs,

Air with all its beams and show’rs,

Heaven’s infinite expanse, Sea’s resplendent countenance –

And that’s a problem. We live in a world used to “disposable” products. Everything from diapers to dishwashers. However, what if we “dispose” of our world!? It’s not like we can just run down the street to our local Wal-Mart and pick up a new Earth.

We do realize this…right?

The First Story ever told has to do with the largest contracting job executed in history. It’s the story of one Father’s ultimate home improvement project – Super sized. It was so big, in fact, that it got a blockbuster title;  Continue reading

Music To Our [Pets] Ear

I read a fascinating article today about the power and effect music has not only on human beings, but also all living creatures! A leading researcher named Joshua Leeds studies the effects of sound on the human nervous system, or “psychoacoustics”.

“Sound,” he says, “is a potent energy that should not be taken for granted.”

Sound effects our neurons and our body rhythms -  heart and breath rate, blood pressure, brain waves..just to name a few. The study process took an interesting turn when Leeds teamed with a veterinary neurologist named Susan Wagner. They discovered that the biorhythms of dogs Continue reading
