This summer marks the 90th Anniversary of the Brighton LDS Girls Camp, located in Big Cottonwood Canyon, east of Salt Lake City, Utah. Brighton Camp began in the summer of 1921, and has the distinction of being the first and oldest continually running Latter-day Saint Girls camp in church history. It has welcomed girls ages 12-14 uninterrupted each and every summer since its dedication, [except one, due to a forest fire which destroyed most of the original buildings]. This summer also marks two more memorable “firsts” for Brighton. Continue reading

Temple At Sunset
The weather here in Utah has been very dramatic over the past week [to say the least]. Last night we were hit with a blizzard leaving 15 inches of snow in under 3 hours on my driveway [sadly, a branch from our beloved oak tree succumbed to the sudden weight]. However, March began delightfully balmy. Just last Thursday Salt Lake was treated to a splendid sunset, and I was given a serendipitous photo op. Sadly, I own a low budget camera and I haven’t figured out how to carry a tri-pod in my purse. Hopefully you can enjoy a little of the magic anyway!

Sunshine In My Soul Today

MoSop on a Nature Walk
Recently I have been taking nature walks during my lunch hour. Not only has this been refreshing to my mind and body, but also to my soul. I started carrying my camera with me on these afternoon adventures, and ended up with quite a collection of photos! Looking at them has filled me with gratitude for this beautiful world we live in. I realize more each day just how much we owe our Savior, Jesus Christ. He has truly given all light, life and hope to this amazing earth. Thinking about it fills my heart with joy. And naturally, I wish to share it. Thus, I have created a video for you to enjoy these images (all but 3 are my own). The music is Mack Wilberg’s arrangement of the Hymn “There is Sunshine In My Soul Today“.
Have a wonderful, sunny day!
An Arabic Christmas Carol
I have discovered a lovely and fascinating video which combines a Byzantine era Christmas song in arabic, with beautiful images. The english translation is included.
It is easy to forget that there are devout followers of Christ found throughout all nationalities and cultures. This arabic chant describes Jesus Christ’s nativity, and has been preserved by the Christians of the Middle East who continue to bear witness of the Savior’s birth in their land. Although this style of music is not familiar to our western ear, it is most likely that a similar melody was lullaby to the infant Jesus. I encourage you to let it wrap around your heart, as you enjoy this visual treat.

Joy To Everyone This Christmas!
Joy to the World!
An exceptional new movie has been created by The Brigham Young University Fine Arts Department, in celebration of the season, which I am thrilled to share with you.
I wish each and every one of you the gifts of love, hope and happiness. May your hearts be filled with the “peace that surpasseth all understanding”, as we celebrate the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ.

Reflections of Christ
In the fall of 2007 a creative project began that would become a life-changing experience for everyone involved. The Lord said, “out of small and simple things, great things shall come to pass”. The Reflections of Christ project has become such. Like a polished stone dropped into a calm sea, the ripples continue to reach out exponentially in all directions.
I am one of those who had never heard of this artistic project. This week a link to view a “cool slideshow” popped up into my already burgeoning email box. ‘Oh brother’ (insert groan), I thought, ‘here’s another “FamSpam”’. However, because this one was sent from a dear friend, I dutifully clicked on the link.
I was not expecting to be transported. Continue reading
