For some reason, the subject of politics always seems to wake the “raging beast” within people. I find this unproductive, and completely contrary to my site’s theme. Therefore, it is with soft footsteps I venture into recent government decisions.
That said, if something endangers individual and collective spirituality, then I feel it is within the mission of this blog to raise a voice. It is my belief that the US Bailouts are a serious breach of our Constitutional liberty, and this course of action presents great spiritual danger as well as political. I received an invite on my Facebook this afternoon to join a “Global Prayer Rally Event” which a faithful Latter-day Saint has created. I think it is very admirable, and a great reminder for us all to follow the request of a prophet of God! Here is the description which accompanied the Global Event invitation:
At the beginning of our last General Conference, President Thomas S. Monson stated:

Those with whom I’ve met feel kindly toward the Church and our members, and they have been cooperative and accommodating. There remain, however, areas of the world where our influence is limited and where we are not allowed to share the gospel freely. As did President Spencer W. Kimball over 32 years ago, I urge you to pray for the opening of those areas, that we might share with them the joy of the gospel. As we prayed then in response to President Kimball’s pleadings, we saw miracles unfold as country after country, formerly closed to the Church, was opened. Such will transpire again as we pray with faith.” – (emphasis added)
This will make a lovely addition to our New Year list, and a great Family Night discussion. What a blessing it is to have a living prophet on the earth today. Let us follow the prophet, and all join our faith and prayers together. May our missionaries be blessed, may the countries of the world open their doors, and may each of us find new ways to spread the JOY of the gospel message near and far!

In March 2001, a new musical production entitled “Joseph Smith the Prophet“, premiered at the Provo Utah Tabernacle. Composer Rob Gardner was then a student at Brigham Young University. Gardner organized the first stage concert with the help of many talented volunteer musicians. The response was overwhelming. The audience filled the venue beyond capacity, forcing many to listen from the lawn outside. In the months and years following, thousands more have been able to attend performances. This post continues my discussion of what the world calls “Mormonism”. Faithful believers of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (nicknamed “Mormon”) feel this is a Restoration of Christ’s true gospel. As explained in my last post, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is a Restoration church. I would like to share a few posts that explain that restoration. I feel the story is exciting, miraculous and important for all to hear. This 4 minute video is about the very beginning of the restoration, with a vision to a boy named Joseph Smith.
Just as Samuel, Moses and other prophets of Biblical times, God chose to reveal himself again to a chosen prophet in 1820.
Fall is in the air, and that means it’s time for Conference!
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints holds two large General Conferences per year. These are held during the first weekends of April and October each year. Over the course of two days there will be 5 two-hour sessions. The first session begins Saturday October 4th at 10:00 am Mountain Time. Check out the Time Zone Countdown.
All of my life, I have been filled with anticipation and excitement for Conference. When I was younger, it meant that I could sleep a little later on Sunday morning, and watch church on TV in my pajamas.
As I got older it took on a much more meaningful and sacred significance.
The beautiful messages of the prophet and apostles often seem directed right to me personally. I receive guidance for my own personal struggles or worries. Most importantly, each special weekend fills up my ‘spiritual batteries’, and gives me a renewed strength to face the struggles of life.
The Choir
This weekend is going to be especially significant for me personally, as I will have the tremendous responsibility and privilege to sing in three of the five sessions. I will also be performing Music and the Spoken Word on Sunday Morning (9:30 am Mountain Time). All of the music for this Conference was carefully and lovingly chosen. I am anxious to share these beautiful songs with the world. I approach this assignment prayerfully. I hope that this gift of music will touch each soul, and help all who listen feel closer to our Savior Jesus Christ, and to heaven.
