This Sunday we will celebrate Mother’s Day in America. For many, it is a joyful occasion, highlighted with traditional gifts of roses, candy, homemade cards and small tokens – lovingly crafted by little hands with big hearts.
Unfortunately, the holiday can have the opposite effect – stirring up a “guilt trip” for mothers forced to juggle too much, and struggling with feelings of inadequacy. And sadly, for some women, this day serves as an all-too-painful reminder of lost opportunities, loneliness, or family tragedy. If you find yourself in these latter categories, my heart reaches out to you in sisterly love.
I would like to submit that no matter the circumstance, Mother’s Day can be empowering. It should not be considered exclusive to those who have borne or raised a child. This holiday extends as a universal day to honor all of the remarkable women of the world – and if you are a woman of this world, then you are inherently remarkable – with an invitation to embrace YOUR day!
This Mother’s Day, let us expand our vision, and remember all of the women both past and present who have done so much to ‘mother’ the world – continually shaping, molding, working for, and nurturing our collective souls. One by one by one.

I was touched so deeply and profoundly by this video. As the father of nine children and step-father of two, and a son of my especially dear mother who has already gone on to the other side of the veil, I have learned much about the power and sanctity of mothers. Theirs is a special gift that we mortal fathers cannot match. Elder Maxwell’s words that really caught my attention were those which caused me to realize, for actually the very first time, that as I stand to be judged by our divine Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, I will be standing there before Him, arm in arm with my Eternal Companion. Thank you for this very special video!
