Follow The Sunflowers

It’s officially Fall, my favorite season of the year! In my corner of the world, the leaves on the trees are turning shades of brown, red and gold, the air smells crips, and sunflowers are suddenly blooming everywhere along the roadside, hills and trails. Yesterday during my training run, I paused as I rounded a corner and saw a long line of sunflowers hugging the fence . They seemed to be dancing in the breeze and waving just to me.

When sunflowers are young, they follow the sun. They gain energy and strength to frow and reach their full potential blossoming from the light and warmth that the sun provides. As they mature, they learn which direction to face to obtain the most light possible, then the satnd firm, permanently facing the direction that offers the greatest opportunity for growth. There they will receive the most strength and light. They mature and shrae the blessings of growth they have received from the sun with everyone that they come in contact with – seeds of hope, joy and love.

“Keep your face always to the sunshine and you cannot see the shadow. It’s what the sunflowers do.” – Helen Keller

We can learn from the sunflower. We can follow the light that the Savior provides; gain strength from Him and His teachings, and stand firm in our convictions. May we always share His light with others, and FOLLOW ‘THE SON’. – MoSop

“As we emulate His perfect example, our hands can become His hands, our eyes His eyes, our heart His heart.” – Dieter F. Uchtdorf
