BYU Men’s Chorus Build and Bless This House

Every year members of the BYU Men’s Chorus seek an opportunity to serve in the community. In 2012 the singers teamed up with Habitat for Humanity, trading their hallmark blue blazers and ties for hard hats and work gloves to help build a home in Orem, Utah for a family in need. The choir also held a benefit concert to raise funds for the project.

The Men’s Chorus feels that rendering service is one of the important ways they can accomplish their ambitious mission statement to “change the world.”

“I think the combination of service and music touches hearts in a unique way. I often say to the Men’s Chorus that our ultimate goal is to change the world. If we can use that music to do even more good in the world than we accomplish just by singing a concert, so much the better.” – Rosalind Hall, Director

After putting in a combined effort totaling over 360 service hours on their home renovation project, The Men’s Chorus gathered once last time on location to offer a musical prayer of dedication with an a’cappella arrangement of the hymn “Bless This House”. In the United States, this song is strongly associated with Thanksgiving and is often sung during the holidays. It is found in spiritual/inspirational collections as well as hymnals, and has been recorded by multiple artists including Doris Day, Perry Como, Leontyne Price, Bryn Terfl, and of course, The Mormon Tabernacle Choir.

It is a joy to add this beautiful hymn (and special music service video), to our Thanksgiving playlist! – MoSop

BLESS THIS HOUSE – LYRICS

Bless this house, O Lord we pray,
Make it safe by night and day . . .

Bless these walls so firm and stout,
Keeping want and trouble out . . .

Bless the roof and chimneys tall,
Let thy peace lie overall . . .

Bless this door that it may prove,
Ever open,
To joy and love . . .

Bless these windows shining bright,
Letting in God’s Heavenly light,
Bless the hearth, ablazing there,
With smoke ascending like a prayer!

Bless the people here within,
Keep them pure and free from sin . . .

Bless us all that we may be,
Fit O Lord to dwell with thee . . .

Bless us all that one day we may dwell,
O Lord! With Thee!
