This Is The Christ – The Healer Of Our Souls

Tonight Mr. Mo and I attended the adult session of our Stake Conference [a “Stake” is a collection of congregations – called “Wards” – in an assigned area].  The theme of our meeting was ‘Becoming more like the Savior‘. There were so many beautiful  and inspiring messages! In conclusion a choir sang one of my favorite songs; This Is the Christ. The lyrics of this song are a poem written by the late apostle President James E. Faust (1910-2008), which he shared shortly prior to his death. The music was composed by Michael F. Moody and arranged for the Mormon Tabernacle Choir (performing below) by Darwin Wolford.

I will include the full lyrics below. Tonight I was particularly moved by the phrase “Healer of our soul“, what a beautiful and hope-filled promise! Also, the stirring query “How many drops of blood were shed for me?” This poem reminds us that he “ransomed us with love divine.” He loves us more than we can ever know.

Tonight the leader of our Stake said something so profound, I hurried and wrote it down:

“There is no ending that need not be a happy ending, because of Him.” – President Christopher Jackson

The testimony of those who saw Christ after his resurrection is given (see 3 Nephi 11:3–17 & Luke 22:42, 44). They were able to feel the wounds in his hands and side and could testify because they were there. We are each invited to read the words that he prayed in Gethsemane and feel of His love personally. Then, as Saints of old, we too can testify that He is the Christ. Because of Him, our souls can be healed, and we can all have a happy ending. – MoSop

This Is The Christ – Lyrics

1. They heard His voice, a voice so mild.
It pierced them through and made their souls to quake.
They saw Him come, a man in white,
The Savior, who had suffered for their sake.
They felt the wounds in hands and side,
And each could testify:
Chorus:
This is the Christ.
This is the Christ, the holy Son of God,
Our Savior, Lord, Redeemer of mankind.
This is the Christ, the Healer of our souls,
Who ransomed us with love divine.
2. I read His words, the words He prayed
While bearing sorrow in Gethsemane.
I feel His love, the price He paid.
How many drops of blood were spilled for me?
With Saints of old in joyful cry
I too can testify:

  1. Beautiful post, as always, Holly! Thanks for sharing your inspiring thoughts, quotation, and the precious hymn written by Pres. Faust. . .

Joyful New Year to you and “yours!”

    With love,
    Aleen

  2. I think this is one of my favorite songs sung by the Choir. I have that album and have almost worn that song out. The words are so inspiring and comforting and the music is so beautiful. It’s almost a mournful sound in parts where it sort of drifts into the minor chords. I love that. I’m glad to see the words written. Sometimes I can’t always understand all the words. Thank you, Holly.

    Love you, Lynne
