As Mr. MoSop started up the engine and the two of us slowly drove away from the hospital we sunk into a bone-tired and soul-weary silence. I turned on the radio just in time to hear an excited radio personality announcing that “this next song has become a new ‘listener favorite’ here!”. When the lively jazz tune began, I immediately recognized the vocalist as my very own dear friend Alex Boyé!
The 2012 Mormon Tabernacle Choir Christmas Concert showered the audience with marvelous surprises, and brought down the house – literally! Special guest artists were Tony Award-winning tenor Alfie Boe and Peabody Award-winning news journalist Tom Brokaw, with a special surprise appearance by Lt. Gail “Hal” Halverson, the World War II US Army Air Corps “Candy Bomber”. There was also another secret unexpected ‘guest-appearance’…by my deceased Grandpa.
In December 2011, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir organization was joined by Emmy-award winning actress Jane Seymour and opera baritone Nathan Gunn in a Christmas spectacular featuring a Medieval theme. The Conference Center on Temple Square was transformed into a fairy-tale castle with accompanying royal costumes and pageantry.
The 2010 Mormon Tabernacle Choir Christmas Concert beat all records for ticket requests, and crowds. Adorning fans queued up to the Conference Center hours beforehand hoping for standby seating. The excitement and energy of the crowd was truly epic.
In December 2009 The Mormon Tabernacle Choir welcomed singer Natalie Cole and renowned writer-historian David McCullough to join ‘the family’ for Christmas…and we made lasting magical memories together!
